An initiative of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP), Ascend collaborates with corporate, education, philanthropic, and community partners, and is well-positioned to play a leadership role in addressing Central Indiana’s workforce challenges.

AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) is a year-long service opportunity through the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). AmeriCorps VISTA’s mission is to strengthen organizations that alleviate poverty through volunteering and the mobilization of resources. VISTA members sign on for a one-year term of service that begins on January 29, 2018. VISTA members receive a small living allowance throughout their term of service, an end of service education award, and various professional development opportunities.

Ascend is seeking several AmeriCorps VISTA members for the following opportunities.

Recruitment Coordinator

The Ascend Recruitment Coordinator will support Ascend’s career placement and recruitment efforts by researching post-secondary graduates and marketing early-in-career opportunities with employers throughout Indiana. The Recruitment Coordinator will research and market internship and job opportunities to all post-secondary students with a focus on students that come from low-income backgrounds (i.e. Pell Grant recipients, 21st Century Scholars, and/or first-generation college students). Additionally, the Recruitment Coordinator will escalate low-income candidates to recruiters for 1:1 meetings.

Responsibilities include:

  • Develop and strengthen Ascend’s career placement activities by sourcing and prequalifying post-secondary student information at partner universities.
  • Support Ascend’s career placement activities at partner universities, specifically focusing on programs supporting low-income candidates.
  • Develop and maintain internal and external messaging and marketing materials for Ascend career placement activities. Support activities that increase public awareness of Ascend and the Ascend Network. 
  • Create a process for sustainability

Business Development Coordinator

The Ascend Business Development Coordinator will support the management and ongoing execution of systems and processes to better understand early-in-career job opportunities throughout Indiana. The Business Development Coordinator will assist efforts to build and maintain strong employer relationships to achieve partners’ objectives and assess their talent needs. Through these strong partner relationships, the VISTA member will be able to effectively communicate employer need to the Ascend team and support the elevation of economically disadvantaged candidates. This VISTA member will also build and implement systems to capture individual employer information and aggregate workforce data to be shared with key stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct research on potential employer partners throughout Indiana, focusing on their early-in-career jobs and internships that provide self-sustaining wages and clear opportunities for career growth.
  • Review internship and early-in-career job descriptions from current employer partners to gain an understanding of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for that position. Draft clear and succinct Network profiles for each role.
  • Conduct research on current demand and labor market trends in Indiana by synthesizing national, state, and local workforce data.
  • Create a process for sustainability

Talent Pipeline Development Coordinator

The Ascend Talent Pipeline Development Coordinator will support the development of custom talent pipelines and/or strategic plans focused on creating career opportunities for low-income students and individuals, in partnership with Central Indiana employers and universities. Projects will include supporting the development of custom talent pipelines or strategic plans for Central Indiana employers, conducting landscape analyses on healthcare, life sciences, education, and workforce issues facing Central Indiana, and developing tools and templates that can be replicated as the organization grows.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support and strengthen the development and implementation plans for various projects, utilizing partnerships with key employer and university stakeholders.
  • Research and organize content for the development of a strategic plan and other deliverables for current projects. This includes drafting the executive summary, power point deck, and dashboard for use by partners.
  • Conduct research on healthcare, life sciences, education, and other workforce related issues within Central Indiana by synthesizing national, state, and local data.
