AmeriCorps VISTA

An initiative of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP), Ascend collaborates with corporate, education, philanthropic, and community partners, and is well-positioned to play a leadership role in addressing Central Indiana’s workforce challenges.

AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA) is a year-long service opportunity through the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS). AmeriCorps VISTA’s mission is to strengthen organizations that alleviate poverty through volunteering and the mobilization of resources. VISTA members sign on for a one-year term of service that begins on January 29, 2018. VISTA members receive a small living allowance throughout their term of service, an end of service education award, and various professional development opportunities.

Ascend is seeking several AmeriCorps VISTA members for the following opportunities.

Career Placement Coordinator

The Ascend Indiana Career Placement Coordinator will support Ascend Indiana’s career placement activities by researching and connecting post-secondary graduates into meaningful internships and self-sustaining careers with employers throughout Indiana. Ascend’s recruitment team will prioritize those students sourced that come from low-income backgrounds, receive the Pell Grant and similar financial aid, or participate in programs such as 21st Century Scholars.

Responsibilities include:

  • Strengthen Ascend Indiana’s career placement activities by sourcing post-secondary student information at partner universities
  • Develop and maintain internal and external messaging and marketing materials to increase public awareness of Ascend Indiana and the Ascend Network
  • Create a process for sustainability

Business Development Coordinator

The Ascend Business Development Coordinator will support the management and ongoing execution of systems and processes to better understand career opportunities within the region and help connect low-income, post-secondary students to meaningful and self-sustaining careers. The Business Development Coordinator will assist efforts to build and maintain strong employer relationships to achieve partners’ objectives and assess their talent needs and connect employers to post-secondary students at Indiana universities, prioritizing those students that come from low-income backgrounds.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with current and potential employer partners throughout Indiana
  • Conduct research on hiring trends and career opportunities, focusing on careers with self-sustaining wages and clear opportunities for career growth
  • Support the organization’s fundraising and development strategy through the creation of grant applications and grant reports
  • Create a process for sustainability

Talent Pipeline Development Coordinator

The Ascend Indiana Talent Pipeline Development Coordinator will support the development of custom talent pipelines focused on creating career opportunities for low-income individuals in partnership with Central Indiana employers and universities. Projects will include the creation of a comprehensive strategic plan, supporting the development of custom talent pipelines for Central Indiana employers, conducting landscape analyses on healthcare issues facing Central Indiana, and developing evaluation procedures to track progress and impact. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Support and strengthen the development and implementation place for various talent pipeline, utilizing partnership with employer and university stakeholders
  • Convene stakeholders and partners to build new and strengthen current employer, university, and community partnerships
  • Conduct research on healthcare, human services, life sciences, and education related issues within Central Indiana by synthesizing national, state, and local data
  • Conduct research on program development and implementation best practices in preparation for the launch of complete talent pipelines
  • Create a process for sustainability
