INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (October 12, 2015) - The Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP) has received a $225,000 grant from USA Funds for a strategic planning process to help Central Indiana employers develop a skilled workforce through its new workforce development initiative.
The new cross-sector, industry-led initiative is building a coherent, inclusive and unifying workforce development strategy that aligns with employers' needs, coordinates with educators, and fills workforce gaps. The program is working with CICP's existing statewide sector initiatives AgriNovus Indiana, BioCrossroads, Conexus Indiana, Energy Systems Network and TechPoint.
"Central Indiana faces challenges maximizing our economic potential, especially in developing a skilled workforce that meets the needs of employers," Jason Kloth, executive director of the Central Indiana Workforce Development Initiative, said. "Addressing misalignment in the high and middle wage labor markets is particularly important, as they are the drivers of economic growth."
According to a Brookings Institution study on 21st Century advanced industries released earlier this year, Central Indiana is a nationally competitive center for regional growth and innovation. However, the study shows that for key sectors to continue to grow and contribute to the region's economic success, a series of talent-related challenges and opportunities need to be understood and addressed.
"USA Funds is pleased to join other funders in supporting this critically important project," Derek Redelman, USA Funds senior program director, said. "Multiple studies and reports have pointed to workforce issues as the leading challenge to Central Indiana"s future economic prosperity, yet, to date, no strategic or comprehensive plan exists to address that challenge. This initiative attempts to fill that void and, most importantly, to do so with employers in the lead. The project aligns with USA Funds' focus on Completion With a Purpose, promoting success in college and career."
In June, CICP named Jason Kloth, former Indianapolis Deputy Mayor for Education, to lead the Central Indiana Workforce Development Initiative.
