Director of Consulting Services

The Director of Consulting is a critical member of the Ascend Services team, which develops and delivers innovative talent pipeline and strategic planning solutions in partnership with Ascend’s clients. The Director of Consulting plays a leading role in the identification of client needs, statement of work development, solutions and strategy development. The Director of Consulting leads multiple client engagements while managing project timelines and execution in a fast-paced environment. The Director of Consulting manages a team under the direction of Ascend’s Vice President of Strategy.

Responsibilities

Support business development and scoping of new talent pipeline solutions.

  • Support the Vice President in understanding and diagnosing clients’ talent needs
  • Research and develop relevant solutions to address specific talent needs
  • Research potential clients and needs aligning to Ascend’s core capabilities
  • Draft project proposals to address clients’ specific talent needs
  • Support all aspects of the Discovery process to secure new projects

Lead multiple strategic plan and talent pipeline projects.

  • Identify and document project objectives, and manage contracts within scope
  • Develop project road maps, set milestones, and assign tasks across the team
  • Anticipate client and team needs and ensure projects and services are high quality
  • Facilitate client meetings to effectively secure input and support decision-making
  • Work with teams to analyze complex issues, identify trends and implications, and develop recommendations and guidance for clients
  • Course correct and propose recommendations to address challenges and issues
  • Manage activities and deadlines for consulting team to support these activities
  • Provide excellent service and stewardship that retains clients and leads to renewals

Build, refine, and finalize high-quality deliverables.

  • Develop outlines and roadmaps for deliverable creation
  • Support the collection and analysis of data, identify gaps, determine additional information needed, and develop recommendations
  • Partner with the Manager and Analysts to create deliverables
  • Generate high-quality PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and other written deliverables
  • Secure appropriate feedback and signoff internally and externally on work products
  • Present project deliverables and findings to senior client stakeholders

Build and implement successful project management and people management strategies.

  • Serve on the Ascend Services leadership team to provide thought leadership and guidance on our strategic direction
  • With guidance from the Vice President and CEO, develop weekly and yearly plans to achieve organizational objectives
  • Manage individual reports and teams to execute plans
  • Manage and report against goals, priorities, and objectives to the Vice President
  • Support the identification and selection of new team members
  • Provide coaching and support to team
  • Provide additional support to the Vice President and CEO as needed

Requirements

  • 3.5 cumulative GPA from undergraduate institution with graduate degree preferred
  • 4+ years of professional experience including 2+ years of professional consulting experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • A detail-oriented self-starter who can be given a need or objective, dissect it into executable pieces, identify questions that need to be asked, gather priorities and requirements, set and manage to milestones, and execute effectively
  • Ability to manage a team to project goals and deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite required
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign preferred
  • Demonstrate ethical handling of confidential information

  • Office location: Ascend Indiana, downtown Indianapolis
  • Travel: Statewide (15% - 20%)
  • Undergraduate degree and several years of relevant experience required, graduate degree preferred
