Manager of Consulting

The Manager of Consulting is a critical member of the Ascend Services team, which develops and delivers innovative talent pipeline solutions to Ascend’s clients to solve complex talent challenges. The Manager of Consulting plays a leading role in the identification of client needs, provides critical thinking to develop solutions, creates and socializes deliverables with clients, manages project timelines and execution, and project manages client engagements in a fast-paced environment. The Manager of Consulting will interact with clients and lead client meetings under the direction of the Vice President of Strategy. The Manager of Consulting will also support high priority projects as assigned.

Job Responsibilities

Build talent pipelines and strategic plans for clients

  • Develop project road maps, set milestones, assign tasks, identify and document project objectives, and manage contracts successfully within identified scope
  • Anticipate client and team needs and ensure projects and services are high quality
  • Facilitate client meetings to effectively secure input and support decision-making
  • Work with teams to analyze complex issues, identify trends and implications, and develop recommendations and guidance for clients
  • Course correct and propose recommendations to address challenges and issues
  • Manage activities and deadlines for consulting team to support these activities
  • Provide excellent service and stewardship that retains clients and leads to renewals 

Build, refine, and finalize high-quality deliverables

  • Develop roadmap and outline for deliverables
  • Collect and analyze data, identify gaps, determine additional information that is needed, and develop recommendations
  • Generate high-quality PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and other written deliverables
  • Secure appropriate feedback and signoff both internally and externally
  • Present project deliverables and findings to senior client stakeholders

Support business development and scoping

  • Understand and diagnose clients’ talent needs
  • Research and develop relevant solutions to address specific talent needs
  • Research potential clients and needs aligning to Ascend Indiana’s core capabilities
  • Draft project proposals to address clients’ specific talent needs
  • Support the sales process 

Build and implement successful project management processes

  • Develop weekly, quarterly, and yearly plans to achieve organizational objectives
  • Manage and report against goals, priorities, and objectives to the Vice President
  • Provide additional support to the Vice President and CEO as needed


  • 3.5 cumulative GPA from undergraduate institution with graduate degree preferred
  • 2+ years of professional consulting experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • A detail-oriented self-starter who can be given a need or objective, break it down into executable pieces, identify questions that need to be asked, gather priorities and requirements, set and manage to milestones and then execute effectively
  • Ability to manage a team to project goals and deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite required
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign preferred
  • Demonstrate ethical handling of confidential information
