Manager of Consulting

The Manager of Consulting is a critical member of the Ascend Services team, which develops and delivers innovative talent pipeline solutions to Ascend’s clients to solve complex talent challenges. The Manager will lead the project scoping and sales process including developing statements of work that outline landscape assessments, project goals, phase-based approaches, deliverables, timelines, and resource allocation. The Manager will also lead the preparation and execution of sales meetings with prospective clients and upon successful acquisition, create detailed project plans, introductory presentations, and knowledge transfer documents for the Directors of Consulting. Additionally, the Manager will lead internal capacity building initiatives to ensure the proper processes and tools are in place to support the Services team in efficient execution of projects and responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

Lead business development efforts

  • Achieve customer acquisition goals
  • Build a robust pipeline of potential projects
  • Research potential clients and needs aligning to Ascend’s core capabilities
  • Support the Vice President in understanding and diagnosing clients’ talent needs
  • Draft project proposals to address clients’ specific talent needs
  • Collect and analyze data, identify gaps, determine additional information that is needed, and develop recommendations
  • Develop phased approach and associated deliverables
  • Develop project plans, set milestones, assign tasks, identify and document project objectives, and manage contracts successfully within identified scope Partner with the Directors and other internal team members to create deliverables
  • Generate high-quality PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and other written deliverables
  • Secure feedback and signoff both internally and externally on work products
  • Present project deliverables and findings to senior client stakeholders
  • Support all aspects of the sales process

Build and implement robust project management strategies

  • Build team’s knowledge and capacity as it relates to project management
  • Develop best practices related to project management and pipeline development
  • Build process documents to capture internal processes and lessons learned
  • With guidance from the Vice President and CEO, develop weekly, quarterly, and yearly plans to achieve organizational objectives
  • Manage and report against goals, priorities, and objectives to the Vice President
  • Provide coaching and support to team
  • Provide additional support to the Vice President and CEO as needed


  • 3.5 cumulative GPA from undergraduate institution with graduate degree preferred
  • 4+ years of professional experience including 2+ years of professional consulting experience preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • A detail-oriented self-starter who can be given a need or objective, dissect it into executable pieces, identify questions that need to be asked, gather priorities and requirements, set and manage to milestones and then execute effectively
  • Ability to manage a team to project goals and deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite required
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign preferred
  • Demonstrate ethical handling of confidential information

  • Travel: Statewide (15% - 20%)
  • Undergraduate degree and relevant experience required, graduate degree preferred
