Client Development Manager

Ascend Indiana (Ascend) is a fast-growing nonprofit on a mission to address Indiana’s workforce misalignment. Ascend’s vision is Indiana to be a place of economic opportunity for all. An initiative of Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP), Ascend Indiana collaborates with corporate, education, philanthropic, and community partners, and is well-positioned to play a leadership role in addressing Indiana’s workforce challenges.

The Client Development Manager will focus on growing the number of employer partners utilizing the Ascend Network. The Client Development Manager will prospect qualified employers and book and conduct demos of the Network technology, with the goal of inspiring employers to partner with Ascend. Additionally, the Manager will capture workforce data through their interactions with individual employers and aggregate the data to be shared with key internal and external stakeholders. Finally, the Manager will support the Vice President on high priority projects and research as assigned.

To be successful in this role you must be…

Strategic at identifying prospects and willing to apply persistence and creativity to book a high volume of demos.

  • You research thousands of employers from across the state and identify the appropriate human resources or internal point of contact for each.
  • You qualify all prospects to determine if their hiring needs align with Ascend’s mission and value proposition to prioritize initial engagement.
  • You schedule hundreds of high impact Ascend Network demos with strong potential partners.
  • You track all activity in a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform and regularly communicate progress to Ascend staff and stakeholders.

Able to inspire trust as you seek to understand each employer’s unique workforce challenges and demonstrate how Ascend will help them achieve their talent goals.

  • You build rapport and trust by asking thoughtful questions to gain insight into each potential partner’s talent needs.
  • You educate potential partners on the value of the Ascend Network to address their workforce and talent challenges.
  • You own post-demo action items which include preparing, sharing, and negotiating partnership agreements and effectively managing communications to ensure conversion to official partnership.
  • You generate high-quality PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and other written deliverables to support the partnership process.
  • You track all activity into a CRM platform and regularly communicate progress to Ascend staff and stakeholders.

An excellent communicator who can effectively drive brand awareness across the state.

  • You leverage your natural networking skills to be the face and voice for external, employer-facing communication and brand expansion.
  • You identify high-potential external event opportunities and represent Ascend to broaden reach and drive employer interest.
  • You plan and execute curated employer recruitment events alongside local, regional, and statewide strategic partners to drive new employer partnerships.
  • You track all activity into a CRM platform and regularly communicate progress to Ascend staff and stakeholders.

  • You are organized and outcomes focused. You track your progress daily and react quickly if you are not on track to accomplishing your goals.
  • You will breakdown goals and develop weekly, quarterly, and yearly plans to achieve organizational objectives.
  • You will manage and report against goals, priorities, and objectives to the Vice President of Network Operations.


  • 3.0+ cumulative GPA from either an undergraduate or graduate institution.
  • 2-4 years of applicable education, business, non-profit, and/or government experience.

  • Experience managing and closing sales lifecycles preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record of success in leading projects and achieving ambitious outcomes.
  • A detail-oriented self-starter who can be given a need or objective, break it down into executable activities, identify questions that need to be asked, gather priorities and requirements, set and manage to milestones, and then execute effectively.
  • Demonstrated ethical handling of confidential information.
  • Track record of successfully working collaboratively within a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite required.

  • Office location: 16 Tech Innovation District with temporary hybrid work, in office on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays each week.
  • Work week: 40+ hours per week
  • Travel: Statewide
