Ascend Indiana Names New Member to its Board of Directors

Ascend Indiana, the talent and workforce development initiative of the Central Indiana Corporate Partnership (CICP), announced today the appointment Dr. Stephanie Hinshaw, associate vice president for Transformation at Butler University, to the Ascend Indiana Board of Directors.

Hinshaw is replacing Butler University President James Danko on the Ascend Board of Directors.

“Jim Danko has been an active and impactful member of the Ascend Board for many years, and we are thankful to have Butler’s continued commitment to our mission with the appointment of Stephanie as our newest member,” said Brad Rhorer, president and CEO of Ascend Indiana. “Stephanie has a deep understanding in, and experience with, post-secondary education in Indiana and has driven Butler’s innovation efforts through the Butler Beyond Transformation Lab. Her expertise will help Ascend and its 32-member Board of Directors develop strategies to ensure all Hoosiers and employers are equipped to thrive in Indiana’s evolving economy.”

Hinshaw joined Butler University in September 2021 as executive director of Butler’s Transformation Lab before being promoted to associate vice president in February 2024. Under her leadership, the Lab introduced Founder’s College at Butler University, a new early childhood education credential (through partnership with Ascend and Early Learning Indiana), numerous new programs (including bachelor’s degrees in supply chain, pharmaceutical sciences and nursing), and launched the first student-run business.

Hinshaw began her career at Harrison College in marketing before joining Medtech College, where she held various admissions and marketing roles, including vice president of Admissions. After a stint with Orbis Education from 2012-2014, Hinshaw joined American College of Education, most recently serving as chief academic officer and provost, before joining Butler in 2021. Throughout her 24 years in higher education, Hinshaw has served passionately to increase access in education. Hinshaw also has taught throughout her career and presently teaches Leadership in Butler’s MBA program. Hinshaw earned an Ed.D. in Interdisciplinary Leadership from Creighton University, an M.B.A from Butler University, and a B.A. in Journalism from Indiana University.

“Throughout my career, I have been deeply committed to removing barriers and expanding access to higher education, while also focusing on the transformative power of leadership development,” Hinshaw said. “These experiences have given me a strong foundation to contribute meaningfully to Ascend Indiana’s mission. I am honored to join the Board and look forward to collaborating on strategies that will enhance workforce opportunities and strengthen our state’s talent pipeline.”
